What exactly is PND (Post-Natal Depression) and PNB (Post Natal Blues) ?

Giving birth to a new birth is a very happy for all mothers, however, some of the mommies may develop PND after the birth of the baby.

Post Natal Depression is quite common and it can happen to anyone, just like a flu. But what exactly is PND and how can mommies overcome it?

Some of the disorders included mood swings, anxiety attacks, unusual appetite cravings, and even severe morning sickness (otherwise known as hyperemesis), which can be sometimes disabling. The common features of depression are also common to the pregnancy state, such as loss of appetite, poor sleep, feeling tired and forgetful. More useful symptons to look out for would be the emotional features and the negative thinking pattern: cry easily, low mood, irritability, loss in interests, excessive self blaming and feeling of hopeless or that life is meaningless. As mood swings are quite common in pregnancy, one clue to look for is these are associated with an loss of interests in social or occupational functioning.

Post Natal Blues 

The blues usually hit in the first week after delivery, and is usually short lasting, subsiding within a few days or weeks. Those affected will feel irritable, weepy and moody. There may be excessive anxiety about being able to cope with the baby, or feeling even fustrated with the baby’s cryings. Post Natal Depression are more common in first-time mothers who have no previous experience with motherhood and those with poor support.

As it is usually short-lasting and does not typically affect the mother’s ability to care for her infant. At this time, we need to help the new mothers to overcome the anxiety. Post Natal Depression

How to cope with Post-Natal Depression? 

Most importantly, seek professional help. Speak to your loved ones, family and friends. Don’t bottom up your feelings inside. Even when you don’t feel like getting off the bed, tell yourself “You can do It!” When you don’t feel like eating, drink something nutritious in replacement! Watch a funny video (even when you don’t feel its funny) Take a stroll down the park, smell the flowers! (Being with nature is the best!) Listen to relaxing music, taste the good food or TRAVEL! See the world in different places, don’t cope yourself up at home. You’ll learn to enjoy the little things in life. 🙂

Sometimes in life, we get lemons thrown to us. Take the lemons and enjoy making that lemonade. 🙂 Don’t feel ashamed of yourself, be brave and confident! 🙂
